Observational Study of Atlas Vertebra in South Karnataka Population with Special Reference to Retro Articular Canals and Foramina Transversarium

Introduction: Atlas Vertebra (1st cervical vertebra) is called “atypical vertebra” and has unusual shape andarchitecture. The dimensions of atlas vertebra are most essential in the technique cranio-vertebral regionstabilization. Retroarticular canals foramina transversaria important for transoral transpalatinalapproaches to clivus, axis.Aim objectives: To study incidence symmetry transversaria.Materials Methods: material present consists 100 adult intact human atlases unknownsexes. They were collected from department anatomy, MS Ramaiah Medical College.Results: Total number incidences retroarticular 10 , 6 on right 4 left, Outof side 3 complete incomplete ,on left 2 incomplete. Theforamina more prominent 29 vertebrae as compared prominence, whichwas observed only 15 vertebrae. But majority cases (60 vertebrae) transversariaare equal size.Conclusion: was conducted observations andsymmetry did show significant results. This will be useful forensicanatomists, forensic anthropologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons orthopedic surgeons
